Western Digital WD Black SN750 500G

  • We purchased this SSD and tried to find performance.
  • We tried 100% sequential/random read and write, 70-30 read/write mix for sequential and random and sustained 100% write with 1m block size.
  • Treat this as our review of WD SN750 500G performance in our environment.
  • Used direct IO and/or sync to avoid cache. Most of the benchmarks done with block level (except sustained write, see last image).
  • We use 10g data size for every test.
  • Picked the best possible peak numbers and corresponding latencies. These are not numbers from sustained run.
  • If you are interested, use with caution as performance numbers could vary depending on multiple factors. We are not liable for any loss or damages caused by using this data. Use this as ballpark numbers.
  • For the purchase price ($69.99), the numbers looks decent (some issues to point though, see below).
  • Other observations:
    • Latency shoots up very high as we increase QD for writes and no improvement in throughput.
    • Write performance is pretty good with smaller files (6g or less) for block sizes 64k and above. Since we observed this, we added another chart for peak write performance with small files also. Rest of them is with 10g data size.
    • Read performance is very good.
